User Interface Engineer – Avance

Stratus Technologies is the global leader in the design, creation, and delivery of continuous availability solutions for mission critical applications. This software product delivers “four nines” availability on commodity server technology, using the latest virtualization technologies. Avance is the most economical and easy to use high-availability product in history, designed for the virtualization age.

Position:

Avance is looking for a User Interface Engineer to enhance the ease of use and customer experience of the next-generation Avance high-availability product. The engineer must be a highly motivated team-player, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and will be expected to:

· Work with field sales, product management, and development teams to drive usability improvements for partners and end-users with regards to:

o Overall product usability

o Web-based management portal

o Contextual help system

o Core documentation

· Develop and validate product work flows for new and existing features.

· Contribute to user interface development, including wizard-based work flows and online internationalized help.

Qualifications and Experience:

The ideal candidate should have the following qualities and experience:

· Excellent written and verbal communications skills

· Web development experience: HTML, Javascript, XML, XSLT, CSS

· Object-oriented design experience with Java, .NET, or C++

· Graphic design experience with Photoshop, Illustrator highly desirable

· Web app experience is a huge plus

Educational Background Required:

BS in Computer Science or equivalent with 3-5 years of experience

Job Description: Boston area startup developing a business to business SaaS application seeks a motivated, detail-oriented Human Factors student or recent graduate to provide the following:

• Help establish a world class user experience for business users
• Define consistency of style throughout user interface
• Ensure ease of use in UI for common business workflows related to buying and selling
• Assist developers with style-related issues
• Simplify, simplify, simplify

Required Background:

• Completed at least one year of studies in Human Factors
• Minimum three years experience in a business environment as a Systems Analyst or related position
• Experience creating wireframes and visual designs
• Personal experience with and interest in social networking
• Self-starter, be highly productive working independently
• Excellent communication skills including verbal, messaging of all types, and presentation
• Hands-on experience with HTML, CSS, DreamWeaver
• UI Development experience in a Java environment a plus
