Location: Smith 122 or Online
Survey design is important because it affects response rate (item and unit) and data quality (introduce bias), which, in turn, affects survey results. As someone who might work directly or tangentially with a market research, or embark on your own research, this presentation will help you think about survey design issues and improve surveys you encounter, as well as give some guidelines and resources. These will be set within the cognitive response model of question comprehension, information retrieval, judgment in responding to a question, and providing a response.
Either come to SMI122 in person or join us through Centra (details below).
Instructions for attending online:
The program we use for remote participation is Saba’s Centra Web Conferencing software. Here are the directions with the session link for attending the HFIDO workshop “More than Stats: Survey Design DOs & DON’Ts” on Tuesday, March 6th at 7:30pm. Please enter the virtual classroom space in advance to make sure you will be all set for the actual class. On the day of the workshop follow the same instructions.

You will be using VoIP audio so please have a headset or microphone and speakers to test your audio. (Please use a headset or earphones, instead of open computer speakers, this will minimize audio feedback.) There is also a text chat box.
· You will come to a page that will ask you to enter an e-mail address.
Enter your e-mail. You may be asked for additional profile information.
You will be given two options, “Launch on Desktop” or “Attend in Browser.” Please use the “Launch on Desktop” to enter the session.
This is the preferred version. The desktop options will ask you to download software. If you are asked to install/ run the software and/or allow security- please select yes.
However if you have security issues please try the browser option which will work without a software download, as long as you have Java installed and enabled on your computer.
Please follow these directions ASAP so if you have a problem there is time to troubleshoot and resolve before the event.
When activating your microphone in the “desktop client” you can hold down the “Ctrl” key on a PC or the “Option” or left quote key on the MAC. There is also a “lock to talk” button (small icon that looks like a padlock).
When using the “browser version”, there is only a “lock to talk” button that you can toggle on and off. Click on the button once to lock on your microphone. When you are through speaking, click again to unlock your microphone.
If you are using a Macintosh, Our Bentley Centra sever is not yet supporting Lion although it should work in the Browser version but with an older version of Firefox and Safari (http://mac.oldapps.com/)
If you have any technology problems please send information to [email protected].
