About the Job

The Cloud Platform group is growing and Akamai is looking for a top-notch Senior User Experience Designer to join the team developing Akamai’s customer portal for our Application and Site delivery solutions, including our new mobile and security products.  We need a User Experience Designer to bridge the gap between a technically correct solution and a highly usable solution.  We need somebody who can work both independently and as part of a larger team.  You will work with engineers, product architects, product managers and technical writers to improve the usability, usefulness and feel of our systems (primarily web sites).

About the Team

The Cloud Platforms Engineering team has responsibility for the technologies that power our Site and Acceleration Products, including Dynamic Site Accelerator, IP and Web Application Accelerator, Edge Computing, Mobile Optimization, and Edge Tokenization for Payment Services. These systems improve the speed and reliability of web sites and applications running over various networking environments. By leveraging Akamai’s global Internet deployment of 70,000+ servers, we can uniquely solve technology problems and exceed fundamental limitations of networking.

Responsibilities

* Design and develop systems to enable customers to effectively manage their applications and sites in the Akamai cloud.

* Work with product management, product architects and our customers to ensure that our systems are meeting everybody’s needs.

* Work with remote teams and designers to develop consistent strategies and standards for all portal applications.

* Manage changes to existing systems to ensure that they fit with the long-term strategy.

* Work with developers, QA, and technical writers to ensure that we provide sufficient help documentation and use consistent terminology to create an excellent user experience.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

* Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Factors or related field.

* Overall experience:  5+ years.

* Minimum of 5 years experience in the design of rich web interfaces (complicated data flow, data representation and/or user interaction)

* Minimum of 5 years experience of active end-user involvement in the specification, design and implementation phase of a project through interviews.

* Minimum of 5 years of experience in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Desired Qualifications

* Desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, small-team environment.

* Experience with cross-platform, multi-browser web page development.

* Scripting/web development familiarity in Java, Perl, Python, Ruby.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
